Target Blue Nevi

To the Editor.—

It has come to my attention that Bondi et al, in the November 1983 issue of the ARCHIVES,1 wrote about two cases of distinct pigmentary lesions that they named target blue nevi. These target blue nevi showed concentric pigmentary variation and were located on the patient's foot. In the German-language literature, this tumor has been discussed for a long time and was first described by myself in 1965.2 Figure 5 in this article presents a cellular blue nevus with the typical targetlike pigmentation, which I termed cockadelike, on the back of the hand of a 19-year-old man. Further descriptions of this distinct variant of cellular blue nevus have followed.3-5
