In the June 1988 issue of the ARCHIVES, an article entitled "Methylbromide Toxicity" appeared. At the time this article was submitted, it was accompanied by a copyright transfer statement signed by all contributors transferring copyright ownership of this material to the American Medical Association with the understanding that neither the article nor any essential parts had been previously published anywhere in any language. It has come to our attention that an almost identical article was published by the same group of authors in the journal Human Toxicology (1987;6:491-495). The same six patients are described in both articles, the figures are similar or identical, the bibliographies closely resemble each other, and there appears to be no substantial difference in the information presented or the comments on the data. Publication of essentially identical material in medical journals with a different readership is not accepted as a reasonable way of disseminating information among . . .
