The third edition of Immunopathology of the Skin, like its predecessors, was written for immunopathologists, dermatopathologists, and immunologists. In this book, the authors "focus primarily on the clinical and laboratory findings in bullous and connective tissue diseases and other skin diseases," in which immunohistochemical techniques are used. The book consists of 44 chapters written by 75 contributors and may be considered a virtual "who's who" of immunodermatology.

This book is divided into four sections. In the first section, methods and standards are discussed in detail. The editors have placed a strong emphasis on immunofluorescence microscopy and standardization of antibodies used. The usefulness of the monkey esophagus as a substrate, immunoelectron microscopy, detection of immune complexes, and the use of monoclonal antibodies to identify subsets of immunocompetent cells are also treated in this section. A chapter devoted to the pathogenesis and significance of autoimmunity seems to be misplaced in this section. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
