Extensive Facial Infiltration in an Ethiopian Woman

REPORT OF A CASE

A 60-year-old woman with an orofacial tumor was referred to our outpatient clinic 2 weeks after her immigration from Ethiopia to Israel. Due to lack of communication, the exact course of the tumor is unknown. According to her escort, it developed during more than 10 years without any medical attention.

On physical examination, a huge, flesh-colored, spongy tumor emerged through the entire width of her lips (Figs 1 and 2), and the whole left side of her face was infiltrated by a lobular mass, the lower part of which was ulcerated, disclosing the same flesh-colored spongy base. The tumor originated from the palate and filled the whole oral cavity, allowing the introduction of only a straw for liquid feeding. The right side of the face was unaffected.
