What Can Dermatologists Do?

The bright, optimistic future of the European Community (EC) has suddenly become somewhat clouded. The political plans and statements contained in the Maastricht Treaty have been questioned in two referendum votes. Instead of increased stability we are—once again—faced with the same heterogeneous, multifaceted Europe with a history filled with art, architecture, literature, and science that have fascinated us for centuries. Unfortunately, that history has also contained unrest and wars.

Why did the Danes say "No" in the referendum taken on June 2, 1992? And should the difference of 40 000 more "No" than "Yes" votes in Denmark be sufficient reason to reject the Maastricht Treaty? There are, after all, 360 million people in Europe and only 5 million in Denmark. Some European politicians intended to overlook Denmark and just carry on with their plans for the union.
