REPORT OF A CASE

A woman presented with multiple, grouped, red-brown papules and nodules on the dorsum of her left hand (Figure 1). The lesions ranged in size from 2 to 4 mm in diameter and had been present for several years.

A biopsy specimen showed a vascular proliferation with numerous giant cells (Figure 2 and Figure 3).

DIAGNOSIS:

Multinucleate cell angiohistiocytoma (MCAH).

DISCUSSION

The MCAH is a benign vascular proliferation that was originally described in abstract form in 1985.¹ Since then, only 20 cases have been reported, most of them in the European literature.^1-4 Only very recently has a review of several cases been reported in the United States.⁵ The MCAH may be underrecognized and probably occurs more frequently than is reflected by the existing literature.
