The subject matter of this book is equally divided between syphilis and gonorrhea. Only the part on syphilis concerns us. The 300 pages devoted to this subject give orthodox facts. The book is issued as one of "practical methods," and that perhaps excuses the rather rule-of-thumb way in which the subject is considered. A good deal of attention is paid to practical details of diagnosis and treatment, but the practitioner or student who reads the book would hardly obtain the intelligent grounding in the principal facts of syphilis and of its treatment. One is surprised to find occasional recommendations of proprietary mixtures, such as "Fellow's Syrup," "Easton's Syrup" and "Sanitas," which, it would seem, have no place in a scientific book.
