LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS TREATED WITH GOLD. Presented by DR. OULMANN.
A man, aged 35, had had an eruption of about five years' duration. There had been a thick, infiltrated, scaly patch on the nose and cheeks, which resembled in shape the body of a butterfly. Follicular plugs were present throughout the lesion. The patient had received twelve injections of a gold compound, beginning with 1 mg. and increasing to 1 decigram. They were given at first every five days, then twice weekly. Each injection was followed by a temporary local and general reaction. When the patient was presented, the eruption had almost entirely disappeared.
