A CASE FOR DIAGNOSIS (LICHEN PLANUS OR PITYRIASIS RUBRA PILARIS?). Presented by DR. FREEMAN.

A girl, aged 8, presented a keratoderma of both palms and soles. Over the backs of the hands were numerous small, red, slightly elevated papules. There were no plugs present on the dorsum of the phalanges. There was a moderate degree of scaliness of the scalp, and the face was somewhat reddened and smooth and had an oily appearance.

DISCUSSION

DR. FREEMAN: I excluded the diagnosis of pityriasis rubra pilaris, and thought that the condition was lichen planus. It is definitely not over a week old as the child was examined by a pediatrician in St. Paul a week before presentation and was all right. When she came to my office she complained that her hands and feet were cold and wet.
