The relationship of fungi or yeasts to carcinomas and other types of malignant tumors has been considered many times.¹

The source of continued contamination in patients with well recognized cutaneous manifestations due to fungi has been a point of considerable interest.² During the last several years, I have cultured the gastric contents and stools of these patients for fungi. In practically all instances the cultures were positive. During the past year, because of frequent symptoms and at times physical observations in the mouths of many of the patients, the saliva was cultured.³ A correlation of the observations on the saliva and gastric contents and the stools showed that if the saliva were positive, the remainder of the gastrointestinal tract was usually positive.
