REPORT OF A CASE TERMINATING IN ACUTE YELLOW ATROPHY

It is generally admitted that one of the most vexing problems in syphilology today is the pathogenesis of, and more particularly the best therapeutic procedure in, icterus developing during or after a course of organic arsenical injections. In this regard, the most recent opinions of Milian, Ravaut and a number of other French authors are of special interest. On the basis of a study of 118 cases of icterus of this sort, Milian¹ insisted on the continued use of the arsenical compounds in post-therapeutic types of icterus or in those developing from two weeks to several months or more after the last injection. He believed all of these to be of a syphilitic nature, and he stands almost alone in his therapeutic advice. Of 105 patients who had received treatment before the icterus developed, 75 had this post-therapeutic type.
