RINGWORM OF THE SOLES IN MEXICO

In Mexico, hairless epidermomycosis of the skin is not uncommon. The variety affecting the palms and soles abounds on both coasts of the republic as well as in the rest of the tropical zones. Primitive cases also exist in the highlands. The type that is localized in the folds of the skin, particularly in the genitocrural region (eczema marginatum of Hebra), is found equally frequently. In patients from the state of Tabasco and from the tropical shores of the Grijalva River, I have seen several cases similar to those described by Pardo Castello in the colored race in Cuba. Whether or not the soles or the palms are affected with epidermomycosis, a scaly pityriasic condition is observed, with fine, dry scales, occupying large portions of the skin of the limbs over an erythematous area.
