COMPARATIVE EXCRETION AND ABSORPTION OF DIFFERENT BISMUTH PRODUCTS

Our object in this paper is to present a comparative summary of the results on the excretion of bismuth after the administration of different cation bismuth products studied by us1 and by others.2 The summary includes a classification of bismuth products used in syphilis, their average bismuth content and also a brief comparison of results on absorption in animals. No attempt has been made at a comprehensive review, and only results obtained with quantitative chemical methods have been compared. As there is no similar summary3 available, it may prove of interest to others in their studies of bismuth and to physicians using bismuth in the treatment for syphilis. It has been valuable to us in our investigations of the anion products of bismuth. The recent review of bismuth in syphilis by Lomholt4 has not been available to us.
