HYPERGLYCEMIA IN DISEASES OF THE SKIN

This paper represents a study of determinations of the blood sugar in over 1,500 persons and of blood sugar tolerance tests made on about half that number. The total series has been divided into three general groups of approximately 500 each.

The first group consists of 514 diabetic patients; the second group, of 504 patients admitted to the medical and surgical services for a great variety of causes; the third group, of 511 dermatologic cases, which are divided into two divisions, division A, 254 cases of various skin diseases which will be summarized later, and division B, 257 cases of furunculosis, pyodermia and ecthyma. It is in the latter group that I was particularly interested, because the generally accepted methods of therapy in these cases caused a personal protest, as in both acute and chronic attacks of boils the traditionally accepted therapy left much to be desired and . . .
