This is the only recent book exclusively on the treatment of syphilis, and the authors bring to its preparation a happy combination of knowledge: a thorough knowledge of clinical syphilis going back, at least in the case of the senior author, to prearsphenamine days, and a unique knowledge among clinicians of the chemistry of the new drugs used in syphilis and of the biochemistry of this field. Its general character is sound and satisfying. In it there are no preconceived notions or theses to maintain; the judgments expressed are founded on the pragmatic base of long clinical experience. The work is excellent in the way in which are developed, simply and clearly, the facts of syphilis as they bear on treatment and the detailed methods of treatment.
