Noah Worcester represents one of those mute inglorious Miltons who deserve remembrance, but who, through some fickle turn of chance, have not had it. Worcester has a twofold claim to a place in the medical history of the Middle West and even of the nation. He brought to the Middle West the teachings in general medicine of the great French school of the first quarter of the nineteenth century and the methods of diagnosis of Laennec. He also brought to America the teachings of the famous French dermatologists of that period.

We have full knowledge through Worcester's writings of his capacity in dermatology. Unfortunately we have no such direct knowledge of his capacity in general medicine, but, judging by his knowledge of dermatology, he must have been a modern of the moderns in his knowledge of general medicine.
