Pinkus,¹ in 1907, first described lichen nitidus as a disease affecting males. Niles,² in a recent review of the literature, commented on the rarity of the condition in females, and stated that almost all cases reported in female patients have been of the confluent type. Highman,³ in discussing a case presented by Maloney,⁴ stated that the condition is more common among the Negro race. The condition, however, is apparently not as rare as is indicated in the literature, for in the transactions of the various dermatologic societies in the ARCHIVES OF DERMATOLOGY AND SYPHILOLOGY many cases are recorded of lichen nitidus occurring in both sexes and at different ages. The following case is reported because of the occurrence of generalized lichen nitidus in a white woman.
