Seventeen reports on familial xanthoma, comprising a total of fifty-two cases, have been published.1
The condition is transmitted as a recessive characteristic and may be inherited through either parent. Six times it has been reported as occurring in two siblings and no other relatives,2 and twice it has been noted in three siblings and no other relatives.3 Two authors have recorded cases in which four siblings were affected.4 In one family the condition was found in two brothers and their two first cousins,5 and in another family, in three brothers and their two first cousins.6
There are three reports of xanthoma in two generations; the first was that of a mother and four children,7 the second that of a mother and three sons8 and the third that of a mother and one son.9 Most interesting is the first mention in
