Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris. Presented by DR. MAX SCHEER.

R. G., a boy aged 10 years, complained of an eruption of eight months' duration.

On each leg there are a half-dozen sharply defined round or oval erythematous patches, from to 2 inches (1.3 to 5 cm.) in diameter. The patches consist of discrete, closely set, follicular papules, topped with a dry horny scale. In some of the smaller patches there is somewhat less erythema around the papules, so that the papules stand out more clearly. There are no follicular papules on the fingers. The finger-nails are pitted, curved and slightly thickened.

DISCUSSION

DR. HOWARD FOX: I disagree emphatically with the diagnosis of pityriasis rubra pilaris. In this case there are sharply bordered acuminate papules on a reddish background, while in pityriasis rubra pilaris the papules are surrounded by normal skin and are not grouped in patches.
