The therapeutic problem presented by dermatitis resulting from long exposure to substances to which the skin is sensitized is often baffling. Such dermatoses are frequently due to chemicals encountered in industry, but entirely similar lesions are caused by irritants not connected with the patient's occupation. In cases of the former type it is not always possible for a patient to change his occupation to protect himself, and when the sensitizing substance is a common one, such as soap, prevention of repeated exposure and cure by such protection are often impossible. Even when the patient can avoid the chemical which initiated the dermatitis, the process often continues obstinately, probably because of secondary sensitization to other substances or secondary infection. Whatever the cause, treatment is often ineffective. For this reason it seems worth while to describe a method which has brought prompt and sometimes long-standing relief to a number of patients, in
