The effect of sunlight in preventing certain diseases of the skin such as psoriasis is well known. In a person whose body has been tanned by exposure to the sun an eruption of pityriasis rosea may avoid the tanned areas.

I have recently observed a number of cases of pityriasis rosea confined to the "bathing trunk" region and other areas of the body protected from sunlight.

REPORT OF A CASE

M. R., a man aged 31, acquired a deep tan on the body during the summer of 1937. Some of this tan was still apparent in January 1938. He stated that

Pityriasis rosea occurring on untanned bathing trunk area. an eruption began on Jan. 16, 1938, with a superficial oval pinkish scaly patch the size of a 25 cent piece on the the right lower quadrant of the abdomen.
