MOUSE BRAIN LYMPHOGRANULOMA VENEREUM ANTIGEN

For the past six years lymphogranuloma venereum antigen has been prepared at the Cleveland City Hospital according to the method of Frei.1 The specificity of this antigen is attested by cases reported from this hospital by DeWolf and Van Cleve,2 Cole3 and Connor, Levin and Ecker4 and from other clinics by de Gregorio5 and Flandin and Turiaf.6

Recently there has been an opportunity to test some commercial Frei antigen7 made from "a saline suspension of killed lymphogranuloma virus in mouse brain." This antigen was used concomitantly with our own antigen and with an emulsion of normal mouse brain as a control. We have never used it alone for the diagnosis of lymphogranuloma venereum in new cases.
