A Case for Diagnosis (Mycosis Fungoides?). Presented by DR. MAX SCHEER.
E. L., a woman aged 48, is presented from the Skin and Cancer Unit of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital. A palm-sized well defined erythematous scaly patch showing moderate infiltration is present on the right side of her forehead.
The Wassermann and the Kahn reaction of the blood were negative. The results of histologic examination by Dr. Wilbert Sachs were inconclusive. The picture was compatible with leukemia, lymphosarcoma or round cell sarcoma.
DISCUSSION
DR. WILBERT SACHS (by invitation): The histologic picture was that of lymphoblastoma, but the cytologic picture could have been that of lymphosarcoma. However, the probable diagnoses were considered to be mycosis fungoides and Hodgkin's disease. There were no Dorothy Reed cells.
