The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical diagnosis with the histologic diagnosis of epithelioma and to show the distribution of squamous and basal cell epitheliomas of the skin.
The biopsy specimens used for this study were taken by the members of the department of dermatology, either at the University of California Clinic or at their private offices. In each case the clinical diagnosis was made by one or several of ten dermatologists. The pathologic diagnosis was based on the concurrent opinion of the majority of the staff of the department of dermatology. In cases in which the diagnosis was questionable or difficult to ascertain the sections were reviewed by the staff of the department of pathology.
