A Case for Diagnosis (Dermatitis Medicamentosa?). Presented by DR. FREDERICK G. NOVY JR., Oakland, Calif.

M. M., a 52 year old Mexican laborer, came to the University of California dermatologic clinic on Jan. 21, 1941, complaining of an eruption on his face and on his upper extremities of one year's duration. At the time of onset he consulted a physician, who made a diagnosis of latent syphilis. At that time he also had an eruption on his face of unknown cause, possibly a contact dermatitis.

During the past year the patient has had forty injections of a bismuth preparation and nineteen injections of mapharsen. The eruption has undergone exacerbations every two weeks, characterized by intense itching of the eyelids, face and upper extremities. The patient stated the belief that the eruption is accentuated after each injection of mapharsen and that when the condition is aggravated, the eruption assumes a vesiculopapular . . .
