Pustular Folliculitis of the Scalp. Presented by DR. M. J. WOLFF.

A. H., a 19 year old white youth, has suffered from his present eruption for about one year in spite of treatment. He shows scattered pinhead-sized pustules about the hair follicles of the scalp. Itching usually is mild but at times is severe. The urine and the blood count were normal. Treatment has consisted of local medications, including gentian violet solution and sulfathiazole (2-[paraaminobenzenesulfonamido]-thiazole) ointment. The patient is sensitive to mercury.

DISCUSSION

DR. SAUL ROBINSON: Has sulfathiazole been given by mouth? Or staphylococcus toxoid? I suggest giving this treatment in this case. I think that an eruption like this is probably an allergic response to staphylococci. I think that use of sulfathiazole internally is the only way it can be cleared up.
