S. N., a white boy aged 8 years, complained of a ringworm infection of the right cheek of about two weeks' duration. When he was first examined, on Nov. 23, 1943, the infected area appeared in the center of the right cheek. It was about the size of a nickel, was red and had a raised border. The hair fluoresced under the Wood filter.

On Jan. 4, 1944 the lesion on the right cheek showed three infected hairs and was flat and only slightly red. However, it was noted during examination that the right eyelashes fluoresced under the Wood filter. A few infected eyelashes were removed and cultured at the laboratories of the Department of Health. On January 14 it was reported that the growth showed Microsporon audouini. This was reaffirmed on January 18.
