Lowry and Franks's recent report¹ of primary gonorrheal cutaneous infection caused me to recall an unusual case of gonorrhea of the umbilicus which I observed a few years ago.

The patient, a young Greek, had acute urethritis. In excreted pus gonococci were demonstrated in great numbers. Shortly after the onset of the urethritis, his umbilicus became inflamed, and a thick, creamy, purulent discharge developed. Numerous typical gramnegative intracellular diplococci were found in the pus. Long-continued treatment with mild protein silver cured the umbilical infection.
