The growing importance and influence of the nonspecific protein therapy in this country in practically every branch of medicine and especially in the treatment of skin diseases justifies, perhaps, at this time, a general review of the situation and the results arrived at so far. Only recently David John Davis said: "The nonspecific effect of vaccines is just now probably the most important problem that concerns the vaccinationist. The possibilities of development along this line are many, for the principle concerns an immense number of diseases, both in man and in the lower animals. Recent works tend to show that many substances, the so-called foreign proteins and their derivatives, may, when injected, cause leukocytosis and certain changes in the blood. These proteins may be derived from disease germs or they may consist of other animal substances, such as serum, proteoses and milk. Marked improvement and even permanent cure may result . . .
