Since the subject matter of general pathology is not limited to the teeth, this volume perforce is one on special pathology. Whereas it begins with heredity and developmental anomalies in a more or less general way, thereafter the subjects are arranged "specially," that is, by regions (teeth, jaws, oral mucosa and salivary and mucous glands). Contrary to strict procedure in pathology, clinical observations are emphasized, even to the extent of including a paragraph on treatment at the end of each subject. Indeed, it is decidedly contrary to custom to include treatment in texts on pathology. The end result is a book that is really a treatise on clinical dentistry, with special emphasis on pathology. It still remains, however, that it is a credit to the author that pathology has been given emphasis, whatever the rest of the subject matter may consist of.
