SPOROTRICHOSIS

Report of a Case in Which Treatment with Iontophoresis Was Successful

THE FOLLOWING case of sporotrichosis is reported since it demonstrates the efficacy of iontophoresis with strong solution of iodine, U. S. P., and the failure of penicillin in the therapy for this disease. While sporotrichosis is usually responsive to treatment with potassium iodide administered orally, an occasional case is encountered in which the disease is resistant to this form of therapy or in which intolerance to large doses of potassium iodide administered by mouth exists.1 The disease is not a rarity here, yet we have been able to find only 1 other case proved by culture which has been reported from Michigan.2
