THE DERMATOLOGIC literature abounds with reports of leukoplakia buccalis.1 Many have written on electrogalvanism in the mouth,2 but few3 have stated that they have observed cases of leuko-plakia due to electrogalvanism in the mouth. The reports of Hollander, Ullman, Vilanova, Touraine and Baudouin, Lain and Caughron, Fitzwilliams and others who stated that they had studied cases of leukoplakia due to electrogalvanism have not appeared conclusive to us.

Only those cases of clinical leukoplakia that were confirmed by a microscopic diagnosis have been considered by us to be true leukoplakia. This requirement eliminated 3 cases of lichen planus limited to the oral cavity and cases that seemed to be more compatible with senile changes than with true sharply marginated leukoplakia. This report is based on 15 cases of leukoplakia.
