THE PURPOSE of this paper is to present a method of surgical treatment in dermatologic practice by means of the hot iron. This surgical method is applicable, with good effect, to the management of a large variety of dermatologic lesions. Yet, for some unknown reason, it does not enjoy a deserved popularity, for dermatologists generally do not utilize this effective therapeutic instrument. Disregard of this very useful surgical instrument frequently deprives some patients with cutaneous and accessible mucous membrane cancers of a life-saving procedure. The result is unfavorable reflection on dermatologists for their failure or inability to carry out a simple surgical procedure in the management of certain malignant neoplastic lesions. This reflection on dermatologists is evidenced by the attitude of some colleagues, especially those of the surgical branches of the profession, who do not hesitate to express the view that dermatologists are not qualified to or should they presume . . .
