THE EFFECTIVENESS of antichancroidal drugs in experimental chancroid of man has been tested by three methods: (a) by autoinoculation, i. e. by intradermal injection into the forearm of fluid taken from a chancroidal bubo of the same patient, after which the patient is treated with appropriate drugs, and observation of whether the experimental infection does or does not develop; (b) by injection of such fluid from an untreated person into volunteers and treatment of the recipients with the different drugs to be tested, and (c) by treatment of the donor and, afterward, inoculation of others with bubo fluid from the treated person.

With method a, if significant figures are to obtained, a substantial number of persons with chancroidal buboes is required and, unless method b is used also, there are no proper controls. Method c can be controlled, again by employing method b on a small . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
