THE OINTMENT herein evaluated, a new isoquinoline derivative incorporated in a bland base,1 is a local anesthetic. In our appraisal of its antipruritic qualities in 128 cases, we have noted but one evidence of irritation and none of sensitization. It has proved to be effective in relieving the itching associated with various diseases of the skin, including some types which had seemed to be especially stubborn in our past experience. Summarized in the accompanying table are the diseases in which we have tested the new isoquinoline derivative as an antipruritic agent. (Note that no infectious diseases are included.) In all, the appraisal embraced the various types of pruritus, notably the anogenital group; localized neurodermatitis and lichen chronicus simplex considered together; various types of dermatitides other than the foregoing; a group of essentially chronic dermatoses, and a miscellaneous collection, unfortunately few in number, attached because of
