IN A PAPER recently published by Senear, Lewis, and Cormia, the statement was made that dermatology was at the crossroads; that it, in common with other medical specialties, had progressed a long way, but that it could not remain static, that its future must be one of expansion.
I am in full accord with this statement; but I believe that with the type of men we now have in our specialty, we are bound to travel the right road. I am well aware that for some time past there has been a concerted but shortsighted effort on the part of some medical schools to make dermatology a very minor specialty. To overcome this trend, we must be alert. We cannot afford to cease fighting for what we believe is our rightful place, else we shall lose our identity as a specialty.
