WITH THIS issue of the A. M. A. ARCHIVES OF DERMATOLOGY, the word SYPHILOLOGY is dropped from the title and a new cover makes its appearance. The change is of some historical interest. For several years there has been discussion about omitting the word ``Syphilology,'' but objection has cropped up here and there on the grounds that the name over the years has become established and therefore should not be changed.

According to Gahan, the first dermatologic journal to appear in this country was the American Journal of Syphilology and Dermatology. It appeared in January, 1870, and was published for five years. In October, 1874, the Archives of Dermatology was first published; it lasted until October, 1882, when it was succeeded by the Journal of Cutaneous and Venereal Diseases.
