A Preliminary Report

Nystatin (Mycostatin), an antibiotic from Streptomyces noursei,^* has recently been made available for oral administration in the prevention and therapy of intestinal moniliasis. Because I felt the usual therapy of cutaneous moniliasis was slow, inefficient, and often unsatisfactory, I suspended tablets of nystatin in a shake lotion and applied it locally, in such cases. My results have been so dramatic in the few cases I treated that I am making this preliminary report in the hope that this therapy may be tried by others for the relief of this fungus disease.

REPORT OF CASES

CASE 1.—J. E. S., white boy, age 2 months, duration of disease two months. Patient presented an extensive oozing red dermatitis extending downward over anterior abdominal wall and involving groins and genitalia.
