Since the description of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans by Darier and Ferrand¹ in 1924, there have been numerous cases reported. The articles of Senear, Andrews and Willis,² Binkley,³ Mopper and Pinkus,⁴ and Mopper⁵ all present multiple cases.

A feature in common with most published reports is that of regarding this malignancy as a slow-growing and rather innocent one, prone to local recurrence but almost never fatal or metastasizing.

Even as recently as the January, 1956, issue of the A. M. A. ARCHIVES OF DERMATOLOGY the comment appeared on page 91: "There is mention in the literature of distant metastasis originating from dermatofibroma protuberans, but, as far as I could ascertain, there was no autopsy proof."
