On the Pacific coast of Canada, where just over 100 years ago the mysticism of the aboriginal medicine of the "shaman" priestdoctors of the Salish Indians held sway, the University of British Columbia recently established a Faculty of Medicine, whose first class of students began their undergraduate instruction in dermatology four years ago. The purpose of this presentation is to outline some of the basic considerations in the early development of the undergraduate teaching program of dermatology in this newest Faculty of Medicine—this latest addition to the medical schools of Canada, situated in Vancouver in the Province of British Columbia, the largest populated Canadian area not previously provided with a center of medical learning.
