Discoid Lupus Erythematosus: Bilateral Macular Degeneration Due to Chloroquine. Presented by DR. THOMAS H. STERNBERG and DR. EDWARD LADEN.

A 32-year-old Caucasian housewife is presented.

There is no family history of macular disease or other unusual visual difficulties. At the age of 9, she had asthma, probably due to wool and house dust, but she has had no allergic manifestations since that time. She had pneumonia at age 6 and severe sinusitis at the age of 11.

The patient developed severe sunburn in mid-1950 with disproportionate reaction. Following this she felt run down and tired easily. In September, 1951, she developed three skin lesions on her right arm. In December, 1951, she developed more skin lesions on the left side of her neck. In January, 1952, following prolonged sunbathing, she developed additional skin lesions on her face, back, chest, and legs. A biopsy was performed, and a diagnosis of . . .
