The International Society for Human and Animal Mycology held the first meeting Sept. 5 to 8, 1958, in conjunction with the Sixth International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria in the recently built and magnificently equipped Institute for Tropical Diseases, Lisbon. About 100 persons attended the sessions, which consisted of two business and six scientific meetings.

The main topics were as follows: clinical and epidemiological aspect of mycoses was reported by C. S. Lacaz of San Paolo; Vanbreuseghem related his findings on African histoplasmosis, and Drouhet, on the mycological aspects of West African histoplasmosis, particularly on the effect of amphotericin B on the disease. Leite Salazar gave an account of the epidemiology of superficial mycoses in Angola and Mozambique. P. Abbot and P. Destombes discussed the epidemiology of mycetomas, the latter stressing particularly osseous involvement.
