Massive Fibroma Pendulum

Fibroma pendulum, a variant of neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen's disease), usually arises from the plexiform type of neurofibroma, most often on the face and neck. Few well developed cases have been recorded within the continental limits of the United States,1-7 and Venner,8 in a review of the classification of multiple neurofibromatosis, emphasizes the rarity of this form.

The following case report concerns a patient with fibroma pendulum which had developed to a remarkable extent before she sought medical aid.

Report of a Case

The patient, a 69-year-old white woman of French descent, was first seen at Charity Hospital of Louisiana at New Orleans on Sept. 20, 1956. Her only complaint was increasing discomfort on the left side of her face due to the continuous strain of the weight of a mass originating in this area (Figs. 1 and 2).
