Sabouraud
Before departing for Paris in 1920, I secured letters of introduction to the then living and celebrated dermatologists of France from the then living and celebrated dermatologists of the United States. Upon arrival I enclosed the letters of introduction to the various men, together with a note that I wished to pay my respects at their convenience. Promptly, and without exception, I received invitations to call upon them, each setting a definite time.
As an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, I lived in the household of a member of the Romance Department. This faculty member married a French woman who knew no English upon arrival in this country, and only French was spoken in the household.
