A 45-year-old male Negro was in good health until May, 1959, when he first noticed pain in both costal margins anteriorly, aggravated by inspiration. He began having chills, and it was necessary for him to give up working because of fatigue. He was admitted to hospital "A" in June, 1959, for one month and was treated for "ulcers." While in the hospital, he began having night sweats as well as pain in his knees, hips, shoulders, and joints of hands. He was given steroids, and his symptoms subsided. He was admitted to hospital "B" in Sept., 1959, for 2 months, during which time he noticed increased weakness and shortness of breath; also, an area of decreased pigmentation appeared over each malar eminence. A biopsy of the lung showed pulmonary fibrosis. At present, he is being followed in the Sarcoid Clinic. He was sent to the Dermatology Clinic for "evaluation of . . .
