Presented in a simple, orderly manner, this book is essentially a reflection of the author's long experience as a dermatologist in South Africa, and the reader should well benefit from that experience. The book is neither a synopsis of dermatology, nor is it encyclopedic. The author proposes it as a text for students and a reference work for practitioners. There may be some readers who will consider it to fall short of that aim because fundamentals are not stressed to the extent that current opinion thinks they should be. But it is a personal book, and it is therefore a strong book, full of common sense observations and advice. The material is weighted heavily toward African diseases. It is profusely illustrated in black and white, and many of the illustrations are excellent reproductions of both common diseases and rarities.
