I have felt for some time that the scalpel and comedone extractor should be made into one instrument. I have used various unions in my office practice and am satisfied with the 2 pictured here. The instrument can be made by silver soldering a scalpel handle to a Shamberg comedone extractor. This can be done by a neighborhood welder.*
The instrument which I call a ``com-e-tome'' may be made with both large and small loops of a Shamberg comedone extractor or with only the small loop. The shaft of the comedone extractor should be curved slightly.
