Anyone interested in the subject of cancer, and everyone should be, will find in this book a postgraduate summary of the subject presented with clarity, candor, and excitement. Sponsored jointly by the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Public Health Service, this conference brought together for consultation and discussion experts representing every discipline actively engaged in the study of cancer—biochemists, surgeons, pathologists, geneticists, virologists, etc. The discussions were oriented along the line of 4 questions: (1) Are our beliefs regarding the subject based on firm facts or are they only cherished opinions? (2) What are the facts, especially in long-term end-results? (3) What new data require modification of our presently accepted concepts? (4) If we do not possess it, what research should be initiated to generate such data?
