It is a pleasure to read the third and newest edition of Lever's Histopathology of the Skin—a personal pleasure because of the immediate response of the reader to its clear exposition, and a professional pleasure because this is a book that represents dermatology well to all physicians. Since its first edition, this book has been a standard source for the student of dermatology. The young dermatologist found rational classifications of cutaneous disease coupled with succinct clinical profiles. The pathology was clearly outlined and superbly illustrated. These qualities are maintained, but the new edition of 650 pages may no longer be considered a précis, for many subjects are treated fully as in a textbook. As an example of the evolution of this work, it might be noted that the section on genodermatoses was 16 pages long and contained 10 illustrations in the first edition; it now has 25 pages . . .
