Case for Diagnosis: Granuloma Faciale; Lymphoma; Plasmocytoma? Presented by DR. ERNST ROSENBAUM and DR. MURRAY KAHN (by invitation).

A 49-year-old white woman presented herself for hair loss of 15 years' duration and paronychial swelling of 12 years' duration. On physical examination 2 discrete, erythematous, smooth, split-peasized, infiltrated nodules were noted as incidental findings on the left cheek. The patient stated that they appeared but 1 week ago.

A biopsy was taken from one of the nodules. The histologic picture was that of a cellular infiltrate around blood vessels and hair follicles of large reticular cells, lymphocytes, eosinophils, histiocytes, and plasma cells. The plasma cells made up 50% of the composition. Special stains failed to reveal mast cells.

Under treatment with topical adrenocorticosteroid, regression has occurred.
